Some weddings stick with you because everything went perfectly. This one stuck with me because almost nothing did, and it still turned out to be one of the most beautiful days I've heard about in a long time.
I got to help Stephanie find her dress, and then afterward she told me everything that happened on her wedding day. I loved listening to her tell it. She was laughing the whole way through, and by the end I was too.
What I remember most is that Stephanie was never chasing some picture-perfect Pinterest wedding. She just wanted to marry her best friend, Jesse, be surrounded by the people she loves, and actually enjoy the day. And I think that's exactly why it turned out the way it did. The whole thing happened at Jillian Harris's farmhouse here in the Okanagan, which is honestly one of the prettiest spots you could ask for.
The BrideA bride I won't forget
From the first time Stephanie sat down with me to look for her gown, I had a feeling she was going to be so fun. She trusted the process, and she was just so happy to be there. She wanted a dress that felt like her.
And she was so easy to be around. Calm, kind, always laughing. She reminded me of something I see all the time in this shop: the brides who seem the happiest usually aren't the ones with the most complicated plans. They're the ones who never forget why they're doing this in the first place. Stephanie had that from the very beginning.

The DayThen everything started to go wrong
Okay, this is where the story really gets going. Stephanie told me that right as she was about to walk down the aisle, the power went out and the music just stopped. Can you imagine? You're about to have this huge moment and suddenly it's dead silent. Most of us would have panicked. She laughed and walked anyway.
Then somebody realized the rings weren't there. Her mom had left them behind. They sorted that out, and then the sky opened up. Rain, thunder, lightning, the whole thing rolling across the Okanagan. And just when you'd think that was enough, the marriage licence went missing too, so everyone went scrambling to find it before it finally turned up.
"It was one thing after another."
And here's what gets me. When you look at her photos, you would honestly never know any of it happened.

A DetailThe people she carried
There was this little charm tucked into her bouquet with photos of the loved ones she wanted with her that day. That part got me right in the heart. It's such a simple, beautiful way to keep the people who matter close, whether they're standing right there or with you in spirit.

The Heart Of ItIt's really about the people
The more she told me, the more it hit me that her photos aren't really a story about things going wrong. They're a story about her people. Friends jumped in before anyone even asked. Family fixed things before they could turn into a problem. Every single vendor just went with it. She said the only thing anyone kept asking was "okay, what's next?"
That's what actually makes a wedding beautiful. Not a perfect schedule or perfect weather or even the music playing on time. It's the people who love you refusing to let anything wreck the day.

The LightRight after the storm
And then, almost like it was on cue, the ceremony ended and the rain just stopped. The clouds cleared out and the light went completely golden. The Okanagan gave her one of those evenings photographers pray for.
When I saw the portraits, I couldn't believe they were taken minutes after those storms rolled through. Sometimes the most beautiful light shows up right after the worst of it, and I told her that might be the perfect way to describe her whole day.
And it means even more when you know who was behind the camera. Virginia isn't just Stephanie's photographer, she's one of her close friends, and you can really feel that in these photos. There's a warmth to them that only happens when the person taking the pictures truly loves you. That made the whole day even more special.
The GownHer dress
And of course I have to talk about the dress, because it's the whole reason we met. Stephanie's gown was so her. Romantic and timeless, but comfortable enough that she could laugh in it, dance in it, walk through the gardens in it, and still look breathtaking at sunset. Every bride hopes to find the one that just feels right. Looking at these photos, I really think she did.

The ReasonWhy this one stuck with me
People ask me all the time which weddings are my favourite, and it's never the biggest or the fanciest ones. It's always the ones like this. Where people pick joy over perfection, where the chaos becomes the story you tell for years, and where everyone walks away saying it was one of the best weddings they've ever been to. Stephanie didn't just tell me about a wedding. She told me about a really, really good day, and I felt lucky to get to hear it.
P.S.One more thing
I can't wrap this up without saying it. Stephanie is a wedding photographer herself, so I have a feeling our paths are going to keep crossing, and I love that. One day there's going to be a bride who finds her dress with me and has Stephanie behind the camera, and when that happens, one of her brides will be one of mine too. Getting to dress her was already a gift. Getting to work with her again would just make my year.
